The excitement of the American Music Awards appeared to have been a little too much for Selena Gomez as she slumped on beau Justin Bieber in the car as they left the show.

After wowing on the red carpet in coordinated 1920s-inspired ensembles, the pair slipped off in their vintage Rolls-Royce at the end of the night, making for a very cosy picture.

Bieber had lent his girlfriend his suit jacket and she was snapped with her head sleepily resting on his shoulder, as he appeared to kiss the top of her head.

The picture was in stark contrast to those snapped before the ceremony, when the young couple acted like pros on the red carpet, with Bieber’s sparkling trainers to accompany the smart jacket and tails the only thing betraying their tender age.

Selena was the ultimate movie goddess in a champagne coloured silk gown, complete with a plunging neckline and thigh-high split, while her sleek retro waves continued the screen siren look.

Despite the retro theme for the evening, Bieber expressed his congratulations to all the winners in the only manner befitting a 21st century superstar.

‘Happy for my dude @brunomars – couldnt have gone to a better guy. well deserved. and @taylorswift13and @NiCKiMiNaj CONGRATS Ladies!,’ he tweeted.
